Maxtima®
Maxtima® contains the innovative new active substance, Mefentrifluconazole which provides fast and effective control of a range of fungal pathogens including dollar spot and microdochium.
The active substance, Mefentrifluconazole, is absorbed rapidly into the leaf where it is protected from rain and UV degradation. Once inside the leaf it is held in a reservoir which provides slow release of the active substance for long term protection of up to 28 days.
Mefentrifluconazole also has excellent binding ability with the target enzyme which is unique to this active substance. This means that Maxtima® continues to provide high levels control against changing fungal strains.
Key Advantages
- Contains a new and innovative active substance, mefentrifluconazole
- Rapidly absorbed into the lead for long-term protection against pathogens
- Excellent binding ability with different fungal strains reduces the risk of resistance
- Provides preventative and curative control

How to use
For boom spraying using a vehicle mounted hydraulic sprayer:
- Half fill the spray tank with water
- Begin agitation
- Add the required amount of Maxtima® to the tank
- Complete filling
- Continue agitation until spraying is completed
For spot treatments using a knapsack or hand-held sprayer:
- Half fill the spray tank with clean water
- Add the required quantity of Maxtima® to the tank
- Complete filling and mix thoroughly
- Use immediately
Maximum Treatments | Application Interval | Max Individual Dose | Water Volume | Application Method |
---|---|---|---|---|
2 per annum | 27-36 days | 1.5l/ha | 300-600l/ha | Boom Sprayer |
Up to 300l/ha | Knapsack Sprayer |
Additional Information
- Do not allow direct spray from horizontal boom sprayers to fall within 5 m of the top of the bank of a waterbody (unless a LERAP permits a narrower buffer zone)
- Do not allow direct spray from hand-held sprayers to fall within 1 m of the top of the bank of a waterbody and aim spray away from water
- After spraying wash out sprayer thoroughly and dispose of washings and clean containers according to DEFRA Code of Practice and local authority guidelines
- To avoid resistance, Maxtima® should be alternated with other fungicides with a different mode of action
Active Substances
Mefentriflucanazole
Bio-Chemical Mode of Action: Mefentrifluconazole belongs to the sterol biosynthesis in membranes or DMI (Demethylation Inhibitors) class of fungicides.
DMI's work by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol which is a major component of the plasma membrane of certain fungi and needed for fungal growth.
Mobility: Mefentrifluconazole is an acropetal penetrant which means that after application the fungicide diffuses through the cuticle and is translocated within the xylem (water conducting tissues) upwards through the plant.
Water potential determines the speed of movement and therefore the fungicide moves more rapidly to the leaf tips in conditions which also favour rapid transpiration.
Mefentrifluconazole also has some translaminar movement (across the leaf blade). This means the fungicide will be found on both sides of the leaf even if only one leaf surface was treated.
Application timing: Mefentrifluconazole has effective curative acticity but is best applied preventatively when disease risk is high but symptoms on the leaf are not yet visible.
Resistance: Resistance to DMI fungicides is dependent on mutation of multiple genes in the pathogen. This means that resistance is more difficult to confer than in some other groups of fungicides and that resistance to one DMI fungicide will not necessarily result in resistance to another. However, resistance to DMI fungicides has been recorded and is best avoided by rotation with fungicides which have different modes of action and applying DMI fungicides prior to disease development so that plants are protected when fungal spore activity increases.
