Walton Heath reservoir enhances the environment
Walton Heath Golf Club is to be congratulated on the construction of their new reservoir.
The project was engineered, planned and construction managed by consulting engineers Irriplan over the summer of 2009.
The reservoir was built by the club's green keeping staff who were all trained in the operation of the dump trucks, excavators, dozers and rollers specifically required for the project. The greens staff worked to detailed drawings and the construction was supervised by Irriplan who set-out the works, verified progress, agreed variations and signed-off the contract as if a regular contractor were being used.
A specialist lining firm installed a geomembrane system specified by Irriplan. The reservoir was designed with a marginal shelf to create an ephemeral palustrine habitat. The ecological and environmental credentials of the project were further enhanced by the planting of a new wood as part of a carbon sequestration scheme.
