Toro Precision spray nozzles make Wimbledon a scorching success

Wimbledon Toro Precision Series Spray Nozzles.JPGForget the longest ever match - it was the fine weather that really made this year's Wimbledon Championships record-breaking! In fact, the All England Lawn Tennis Club's historian, Alan Little, described the tournament as "the sunniest I can remember".

With no rain delays during the famous fortnight, the grounds team were more reliant than ever on their Toro Irrigation system to see them through a successful 124th tournament. Irrigation engineer Grant Cantin paid tribute to the Toro system helping keep the courts ready for every slam, shot and rally - and Nadal's celebratory roly-poly, of course!

In particular, Grant says that Centre Court's new Toro Precision Series Spray Nozzles - which deliver a lower precipitation rate and ensure water is applied more slowly and evenly for improved efficiency - have helped keep the 'centre stage' in perfect playing condition.

"Centre Court and Courts 1 and 2 need a bit more watering because of the concrete - temperatures can reach over 40 degrees centigrade in the sun," he reveals. "The concrete dries out the edges of the turf on Centre Court, so our new Toro Precision Series Spray Nozzles are really good because you can just spray the sides without getting the whole court wet."

Toro says that its newly launched Precision Series is the most complete and effective spray nozzle range available today, and promises to help irrigation professionals make significant efficiency and cost savings on water usage as well as eliminate runoff. The nozzles' 25mm per hour precipitation rate ensures that water is applied more slowly without sacrificing turf health, while a wide choice of arcs and radii, as well as male and female threads, make them ideal for a wealth of projects, from large scale installations to retrofits.

Wimbledon's Toro Irrigation system also features 855S sprinklers and SitePro central control. "During the Championships, we only water at night with our SitePro system - just one flick of water to keep plant alive, which is ideal as we're working 15 to 16 hour days," Grant concludes. "But nothing beats working at the Championships when the weather is warm."
