A view on robotic mowers

In recent years, many have adopted robotic mowers to focus staff time into other areas. In this article we discuss the benefits of having a robot on your turf team.

A social media user wrote positively about the use of robotic mowers: “Going into our third season with three. Not the slightest problem.”

Another wrote: “l don’t understand the negativity. Surely it frees up your staff to do the more important works: aeration, construction and top dressings.”

Not all greenkeepers are welcoming the technology: “Let's just put greenkeepers out of a job .. treasurer and committee will look at this as a money saving on wages.“

Someone added: “I have one on my garden and it is not without its faults, it can get stuck and will sit there until further notice until someone can rescue it. It needs a clear line of sight to a fixed reference station, I can’t see how a proper parkland course can make them work?“

Some have since warned up to the idea after testing robotic mowers: “We've got two and I was sceptical about them but to be honest they are brilliant, already looking at getting a few more”

There are several reasons why golf courses should consider embracing robotic mowing for managing their golf course, supported by the pristine running at Cranham Golf Club, the UK’s first full 18-hole golf course to utilise robots to manage the fairways and first cut rough. Leading supplier Husqvarna writers on its website: “With our commercial robotic lawn mowers you will create a first-rate first impression. It frees up time and resources for ground maintenance, which lets you work on other valuable tasks. Meanwhile, thanks to EPOS™ Technology it delivers an impressive and healthy looking green space. When you invest in our commercial robotic mower models you also get access to Fleet Services™ - a digital tool that allows you to easily monitor and control them from your smartphone, tablet or laptop.

In addition to this, our commercial robotic lawn mowers give off no direct fumes or CO₂ emissions while working. Maybe this can help you reach your sustainability targets?”
