The Synthetic Solution from Active Leisure Contracts
Active Leisure Contracts at SALTEX 2003
By Chris Bassett
When the history of turf maintenance is reviewed, there is a saying that comes to mind again and again - "cometh the hour, cometh the man". Simply stated, if the problem is big enough and stays around for long enough, some bright spark bites the bullet and finds a solution.
What, you may ask, has all this to do with artificial turf? It's simple, really, for though natural turf can look lovely it also takes a heck of a lot of expensive maintenance to make it even barely acceptable.
The secret is that word "barely", for in so many instances what starts life as lush verdant sward can rapidly turn into bare, unsightly patches. Also as golfers and other sports players demand acceptable surfaces twelve months of the year, it has become patently obvious that alternative surfaces are necessary.
Not only is an artificial grass surface often indispensable, but also it is rapidly becoming accepted as a far better alternative than mud baths in winter and Saharan type landscapes in summer.
Along with TeeTurf, ALC distributes Pathgrass, a tough grass - like surface that is spike resistant, plus the unique Rubaflex, an insitu laid surface for paths or driving range stations. The range is completed with a surface for greens and driving range target areas. Its quality and natural appearance defies mere description.
Approval doesn't come without proper testing, thus it is encouraging to note that ALC's 3rd generation rubber filled football surface - Profoot Premier - is used in the FIFA recommended pitch at Valencia Sporting Club in Spain.
