Following a record-breaking year in 2023, delivering £76 million to improve grassroots facilities across England, the charity is gearing up to make 2024 even bigger.

To help ensure everyone has access to a great place to play, the Foundation has a full line-up of advice and funding opportunities - whether that be for new goalposts, floodlights to shine a light on brilliant players, a grass pitch that can be used all year round, or a community space that will be welcoming to all.

Robert Sullivan, CEO of the Football Foundation said: "This year, the Football Foundation will provide more great places to play than ever before.

"Good quality facilities not only have a transformative impact on physical and mental wellbeing, but also play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities from the roots up.

"Thanks to the support we receive from our partners at the Premier League, The FA and Government, the Football Foundation is ready to deliver the facility improvements that every community needs and deserves."

Over the next 12 months, the Foundation will be launching exciting new programmes to ensure its support is reaching those who need it most, including:

  • Opening the first Football Foundation PlayZone, which are small-sided pitches designed by and for the local communities in which they're located.
  • Delivering new state-of-the-art Hubs that enable people to play all-year round - whether it's a wet and dark winter night or a sunny summer's day.
  • Harnessing the inspirational power of the Lionesses by providing women and girls with equal access to opportunities to play.

About the Football Foundation

The Football Foundation is the Premier League, The FA and Government's charity that delivers outstanding grassroots facilities, more and better places to play, transforming lives and communities where it is needed most.

The Foundation's goal is to unlock the power of pitches ensuring everyone has a great place to play regardless of gender, race, disability or place.

Since its creation in 2000, the Foundation has invested more than £1 billion to improve grassroots facilities across the country - including 1,100 3G football turf pitches, 12,000 grass pitches and 1,400 changing rooms. This has attracted an additional £1.3 billion of partnership funding - totalling over £2 billion investment in grassroots football so far.

In partnership with local authorities, County FAs and other community stakeholders, the Foundation has created Local Football Facility Plans for every local authority in England. These Plans act as a blueprint for providing the grassroots football facility improvements that each community needs and deserves across the country.
