Steve Rouse Overview
STEVE ROUSE
Head Groundsman, Warwickshire County Cricket Club
I started my working life at Edgbaston at the age of 17 after leaving Moseley College. I stayed on the playing staff with Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the next 15 years.
I was forced to retire from the game in 1983 due to chronic knee problems and after several knee operations.
Having enjoyed so many years in cricket I decided to get involved with the grounds side and set up my own business, with a staff of 3, working as a sports ground maintenance contractor.
In 1993 I was invited by my old club to become their Head groundsman, a position I found more than appealing.
Since I took over I have made significant changes to the ground in an attempt to improve an ageing square and outfield.
Despite coming into the industry at a later stage I have realised that one can never stop learning in this ever changing climate of playing demands, weather and technology. My support of Pitchcare.com comes with a sense of wanting to share my expertise and knowledge.
With the existing mediums available it was impossible to find time to speak to everyone who wanted advice. Now I have the ability to communicate with so many more people than before, and hopefully be part of a concept that will help even the smallest clubs produce better quality wickets for the future.
