South Wales goes green

Local authorities in South Wales are going green in a big way - John Deere dealer Powercut of Cwmffrwd, Carmarthen, has just delivered 31 X Series diesel lawn tractors worth over £250,000 to five councils west of Cardiff.

These included 18 machines to Carmarthenshire County Council, seven to the City & County of Swansea, four to Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council and one each to Bridgend CBC and Powys CC. Carmarthenshire, previously Dyfed CC, has been buying John Deere equipment from Powercut for the last 15 years, while Powys is the dealer's newest local authority customer.

All the machines - a mixture of two wheel drive X495 and four wheel drive X595 models - have been built to individual council specifications regarding the choice of features such as lights, roll-bars, mower decks and ptos. Powercut staff spent a total of two weeks on preparing the machines for their spring delivery.

"Local authorities throughout this area use John Deere ride-on machines as their main, front line grass cutters," says dealer principal Malcolm Rees. "It's down to their quality, reliability and realistic service costs - mowers get worked very hard, they're out at all times in all weathers. A fleet customer of ours, using six X Series ride-ons, has only needed one very minor warranty repair in two years."
