A Berkshire golf club has cut the ribbon on its new-look clubhouse following major works to accommodate a busy programme of events planned on and off the course.

Royal Ascot Golf Club has opened its regenerated clubhouse to enhance customer facilities and the overall experience for members and visitors.

The major investment has created a new 200-square-metre outdoor social and dining area with the club also entering a multi-year partnership with retail giant Greene King, whose supply will be on sale seven days a week.

The new outdoor space also features a shoe-cleaning machine and decorative fencing.

Stephen Nicholson, general manager at Royal Ascot Golf Club, said: “Our location on wooded Crown Land is what makes the club unique to many of our existing and new members.

“We’re committed to enhancing the profile of golf locally and making the game accessible to as many people as possible. But providing an open space for visitors to enjoy our improved clubhouse facilities is equally important.

“After listening to feedback from our members, we’ve expanded our outdoor social area and deliberately positioned it to be exposed to sunlight through the day during the summer months.

“These renovations will ensure our guests experience the best our club has to offer.”

The clubhouse improvements follow a packed calendar of events on the course this season, including several open competitions headlined by the Southern Legends Tour delivered in partnership with the PGA.

Other tournaments this summer included the Olympic themed Pairs Open on June 10, the 36-hole Gents Scratch Open on July 14, the Ladies Team Open on July 17 and the Seniors Team Open on August 1.

Stephen added: “There is a real feel-good atmosphere at the club right now.

“Last year was a memorable one with an increase in social events off the course, a strong programme of competitions and a special visit from the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh who planted the first trees on our Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Wood.

“We have ambitious plans to continue this upward trend and hope to welcome plenty of new faces through our doors this autumn.”

Founded in 1887, Royal Ascot Golf Club was granted Royal status by Queen Victoria and is set in 150 acres of the woodland of Windsor Great Park off Winkfield Road and adjacent to the world-famous racecourse.
