New regulations for use of professional plant protection products
All those who use or supply professional plant protection products (PPP) now have a legal obligation to register themselves with DEFRA before the deadline of 22 June 2022.
Failure to join the register will be a breach on new government regulations, which will be enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
If you use professional plant protection products as part of your work, or if you have professional PPPs applied by a third party as part of your work in agriculture, horticulture, the amenity sector or forestry in Great Britain, then you must join the register. If the products you use as part of your work have a ministerially approved pesticide product number (MAPP), registration with DEFRA will be required to continue using it after the deadline of 22 June 2022. Those who start using professional PPPs for the first time, must register within 3 months of the time they begin using the products.
Full details of how to register can be found here on the Gov.uk website.
The Health and Safety Executive has published a useful Applicant Guide on Product Registration (MAPP) numbers.
If your business imports, manufactures, processes, distributes, or sells professional plant protection products in Great Britain (England, Scotland or Wales) the deadline to notify DEFRA was 22 September 2021. If you have not yet done so, you should notify DEFRA immediately.
