Andy Whiteman has been appointed Head Groundsman at Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

Apart from a brief spell at Leicester City Football Club's training ground, he's been at Grace Road since 1994 and was nominated by the County board to complete the ECB's intensive pitch advisors course in 2001.

He leads a team of five in the day-to-day maintenance of the ground, nets and the square at local side Hinckley Town.

Commenting on his appointment, Andy was keen to praise the efforts of assistant head groundsman Andy Ward and the rest of his team: "We've got a very close team here at Grace Road who take collective responsibility for the work that's carried out and I feel privileged to have been appointed Head Groundsman.

My aim as far as the ground's concerned, is to provide a playing surface that performs consistently. In terms of personal development, the pitch advisors course has really broadened my horizons. It's easy to work in your own little 'bubble' and I enjoy meeting other groundsmen to discuss experiences and techniques.

The Club's Director of Cricket James Whitaker said: "We're very happy with our team of groundsmen at Leicestershire County Cricket Club and congratulate Andy Whiteman on achieving the post of Head Groundsman. We're confident that he'll do an excellent job".
