New cab improves comfort for McCormick
Among the McCormick tractors being exhibited on the AgriArgo UK stand C42 at the SALTEX event this year is the latest version of the 80-102hp CX model featuring a new cab, uprated brakes and (on the CX110) a longer wheelbase.
"The new cab for the CX is one of several evolutionary updates that include 'greener' engines and twin-disc brakes to cope with bigger, heavier implements and trailed equipment," explains product specialist Paul Wade. "This mid-range model is eminently suitable for large-scale grounds maintenance and highways operations; the changes add to the safety, performance and comfort levels of what is our best-selling tractor."
Visually, the most obvious change is the new four-post cabin, which is similar to the design previously reserved for bigger, more prestigious tractors in the McCormick range.
It creates a new working environment with drivers enjoying much improved visibility thanks to the lack of 'B' pillars to interrupt the view sideways, as well as the extra light let in by having fully-glazed doors filling both sides of the structure.
"The Deluxe cab also gets a roof window that lets in more light, improves upward visibility when using a front loader and can be opened for extra fresh air," notes Paul Wade. "Inside, there is a more modern instrument display and a re-designed side console with built-in flask or drinks bottle holder for the first time."
Mechanical specifications include the latest Tier 3 emissions-compliant four-cylinder Perkins engines with outputs of 83hp, 92hp and 102hp; a 70mm extension of the CX110 T3's wheelbase, which gives some improvement in stability and road-driving characteristics; and a twin-disc brake installation, which effectively doubles the brake surface area.
"This upgrade includes a new carbon/Kevlar coating for the discs to more effectively handle the stresses and heat generated by heavy braking," says Paul Wade. "It all helps keep pace with the increased capability of this tractor, which routinely is operating bigger, heavier implements and trailed equipment."
The McCormick CX 'T3' comes with a choice of transmission: Synchro 16x8 has two powershift speeds and synchro-shuttle; the more sophisticated XtraShift 24x24 has three powershift speeds and a power shuttle.
A creep gearbox is available for extra-slow speeds for specialist turf-care, seeding and other implements, and a low-profile cab can be specified in place of the Deluxe unit if overall height is an issue.
