Myerscough College - On-Line For Sporsturf!

From September, Myerscough College near Preston, Lancashire will be the first College in the UK to offer an exciting new on-line Foundation Degree in Sportsturf, making the College a true world-leader in such innovative courses!

The distance study options involve interactive internet-based teaching and learning materials making qualifications in Sportsturf accessible to all with internet access, regardless of location or nationality. This more flexible method of study will also be a major breakthrough in overcoming the participation barriers currently experienced by those employed full-time in the Sportsturf industry, allowing them to gain a higher education qualification whilst they work.

The Foundation Degree, which is the new equivalent to the Higher National Diploma, has been developed as a free-standing qualification which can be topped-up to a BSc (Hons) degree by means of two bridging modules and an additional year of study (currently full-time).

These courses are particularly aimed at those actively engaged in the sportsturf industry who may or may not have formal qualifications. The formal requirement for entry is 1 'A' level or equivalent or an equivalent level 3 award such as NVQ 3 or National Diploma, however experience in the industry will be a major consideration for acceptance onto the course of studies. Myerscough College is committed to ensuring that on-line materials are accessible to all, in accordance with the (SENDA) Special Educational Needs and Disability Act, 2001. Applicants should apply directly to the College.

Colin Stanfield, Programme Leader for Sportsturf at Myerscough Colllege, adds, "We have worked in collaboration with the industry to open up training and education in Sportsturf to a wider audience - particularly those already employed in the industry for whom giving up employment to study at College is not an option. Our work based NVQ programme throughout the U.K. and beyond opened up the option for those already in employment looking for skills and knowledge development. This new higher education qualification will provide a superb progression opportunity for these people and others who wish take to expand their knowledge and become the future leaders and innovators in the Sportsturf industry".
