My Trimax: Langley School

Caroline Shawin Machinery & Mechanics

Langley School is a prestigious independent co-ed boarding school set in deepest Norfolk countryside. Its beautiful Grade I listed grounds, originally designed by Capability Brown are now put to mixed use, including 70 acres of grass for rugby, football, hockey and cricket, tennis and athletics. There's also 40 acres of amenity parkland and woodland as well as a fair few sweeping lawns and landscapes

So with a year-round need to keep the pitches match-ready, it's no wonder Langley's groundskeeping team loves their new tractor-pulled Trimax mower - the Pegasus 493. The school's Head Groundsman, Neil Yarham, says they've now got their mowing down from 40 hours to just 15.

"We're extremely pleased with the Trimax Pegasus. With our old ride-on, mowing the whole site used to take so long we had little time left for spiking, spraying and other sports-pitch care. Now even in the middle of the grass-growing season, we can get round in two days. It's hard to imagine how we ever managed before we got the Trimax!"

"The Pegasus 493 has an increased cutting width and higher speed. That means we can cut more regularly and maintain a top-notch surface, which all goes towards the quality of our sporting facilities. The machine handles our terrain really well and the large front rollers follow the contours with ease. I've never had any scalping."

Langley bought their mower and tractor from Norfolk dealer Ben Burgess. Sales Manager, Neal Hussey helped them choose: "I knew they'd be over the moon with the Pegasus. It's so simple to operate and adjust. The blades draw air through them and you get a very even cut. It's also very low maintenance, and when you do need a Trimax spare part, they're inexpensive."

Neal continues: "We demoed two brands for Langley School and the Trimax clinched it; it also came in cheaper as a package with the new tractor. Langley preferred to keep the whole bundle under one roof. We find Trimax very good to work with; nothing's too much trouble for them, they're very hands-on and always available. They'll be as delighted as we are with another happy customer."
