Goalkeepers continue taking the p*** out of Groundsmen (and the Football League)

DSCN2346.jpg

More images of deliberate pitch damage by a goalkeeper, this time from last night's League Cup match at Manchester City. The culprit - Arsenal reserve goalkeeper, Manuel Alumnia, who appears to be following in the footsteps of his club colleague, Jens Lehman.

Despite warnings to clubs and directives to referees, there is no let up in this illegal and destructive practice. And why would there be? Alumnia obviously sees Lehman getting away with it, so the problem perpetuates.

Does anyone know if a goalkeeper has been warned or booked for deliberately marking the goal area this season? I would be interested to know. I have asked the question of the Football League, and am awaiting a response.

We are entering the time of year when Groundsmen are doing their best to produce quality pitches in difficult growing conditions. Serious damage caused over the next few months is going to be almost impossible to repair until next spring.

We will continue to tackle this problem, but we need your help. Keep records of goalmouth damage. Take photos of the damage. If you can, get a photo of the goalkeeper actually marking the goalmouth. Help us to help you.
