MJ Abbott upgrades its excavator fleet ready for the new season
Leading golf and sports turf construction contractor MJ Abbott Limited has upgraded its front-line excavator fleet ready for the 2014 construction season, representing an investment of over £500,000 in new plant.
The Wiltshire-based firm has just taken delivery of four new 13-tonne Hitachi ZX130LCN5 360° excavators, fitted with Engcon EC15B tiltrotator attachments which allow the operator to rotate the excavator's bucket through a full 360 degrees.
This gives the excavator superb versatility, and the operator is able to perform complex shaping operations without having to continually adjust the position of the machine, which also leads to significantly increased productivity on site.
In certain situations, such as shaping compact golf bunkers, a smaller excavator is sometimes more appropriate. MJ Abbott specifies Takeuchi midi excavators to cater for this requirement, and has recently taken delivery of two new 8.5-tonne Takeuchi TB285 360° compact excavators fitted with Engcon EC10B tiltrotator attachments, which give these smaller machines the same versatility and productivity advantages as the larger Hitachi excavators.
The order was completed by the purchase of one new 5-tonne Takeuchi TB250 360° compact excavator and three new 2.5-tonne Takeuchi TB23R 360° mini excavators for use on drainage and irrigation projects.
The Hitachi machines were supplied by UK distributor HM Plant, and the Takeuchi excavators were supplied by MJ Abbott's preferred dealer, Webb Plant Sales of Taunton. The Engcon tiltrotator units were supplied and fitted by UK Engcon specialists K&W Mechanical Services.
MJ Abbott's Managing Director, Jonathan Abbott, commented: "This represents a significant commitment for us, however these are our front-line machines and it is very important that we continually invest in our machinery fleet to stay ahead of our competitors. We are anticipating another very busy year in 2014 and we expect to put this new kit to work shortly."
