Major Associations collaborate on Industry Awards

An unprecedented collaboration between the majority of leading associations has led to the founding of the BRITTIR AWARDS (BRITish Turfgrass Industry Recognition Awards) to acknowledge outstanding contributions from individuals and companies for elevation of the British turfgrass sector.

When the concept was first conceived, all British membership and trade associations involved in any aspect of turfgrass management and the provision of sports surfaces were approached to participate in the scheme. Virtually all of them enthusiastically welcomed the initiative. The Institute of Groundsmanship, the British Turf and Landscape Irrigation Association, the British Association of Golf Course Constructors, the National Turfgrass Foundation, and the Turfgrass Growers Association will collectively pay tribute to people who, until now, may not have received the acclaim that they justly deserve.

Categories in the BRITTIR Awards will recognise authors, educators, technical representatives, and benefactors who have unselfishly devoted time and effort to enhancing turfgrass education, promoting the professional status of the industry, and raising public awareness during the year in which the Awards are presented. Special recognition will also be given to individuals for lifetime achievements.

The scheme is an unparalleled collaboration between associations, working together for the benefit of all, very much in the same sentiment as the criteria on which the awards will be presented.

Recipients of this year's Awards, selected from a number of nominations, will receive their accolades at a special Gala evening to take place during the National Turfgrass Foundation Conference being held in Southport from 29th November to 2nd December 2004 inclusive.
