Lord Mayor officially opens Pype Hayes Golf Course
The Pype Hayes Golf Course, Gym and Clubhouse in Sutton Coldfield was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Mike Leddy at a ceremony on Wednesday 31 July, following a £2m refurbishment by social enterprise Mytime Active.
This is the first major investment in the region from Mytime Active who last year took on a 50-year contract to run Birmingham City Council's seven golf courses.
The Pype Hayes Clubhouse, which was destroyed by a fire in 2009, has been transformed into a state-of-the-art community space which now boasts stylish function suites, a new café/restaurant, and high quality changing rooms.
The venue also includes a modern gym with an impressive 60 stations and top of the range Precor equipment for people of all ages and abilities. Significant improvements have also been made to the golf course.
Dignitaries from Birmingham City Council alongside Mytime Active staff, and GF Holding building contractors attended the ceremony to hear addresses from the Lord Mayor, Steve Price, Mytime Active CEO and Dennis Barkway, Mytime Active Chairman.
The Lord Mayor said, "I am very pleased to be officially opening this fantastic facility.I encourage the entire community to come along to Pype Hayes Golf Course, Gym and Clubhouse to benefit from the wide range of activities on offer".
Mytime Active CEO Steve Price said, "We are delighted to open the doors of this new clubhouse which will provide an excellent, long overdue facility for golfers and gym enthusiasts as well as a perfect venue for corporate and family functions.
This event heralds the start of an investment plan that will transform the golfing experience across Birmingham. We are currently enhancing six other golf courses in the city, including Hatchford Brook Golf Course where work has commenced to develop a driving range, gym and improve facilities".
Steve added, "The success of this project could not have been achieved without the strong relationship between Mytime Active and Birmingham City Council. This fruitful partnership has provided the platform for change and marks an exciting time for golfers within the region".
