Koro Top Drain Joins Contractor's Fleet

Lancashire-based sportsground construction company, BPG Sportsground Contractors, has added a Koro by Imants Top Drain 1500 to its impressive fleet of specialist machinery.

The company, whose diverse range of clients includes Manchester University, Chester Zoo and Edgbaston Golf Club, has worked extensively with the machine, installing secondary drainage systems on sports pitches.

BPG's Managing Director, Bryn Winston, said the Koro By Imants Top Drain would enable his company to specify and offer all types of surface drainage to suit any situation: "We carry out a great deal of work with Bovis Lend Lease and Carillion on Building Schools for the Future (BSF) schemes, and our machine has been put to work immediately at two such projects in Rochdale, where we're involved in the refurbishment of sports pitches covering three hectares. It'll then be used at two further schools projects for Carillion in conjunction with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council - one of them being a pitch replacement at my old high school, Mossley Hollins! In my opinion, using the Top Drain is quickest and most effective way of sand slitting a sports facility."

The Koro by Imants Top Drain is the only established machine capable of cutting three trenches at once, and importantly, removing the spoil. It then injects sand and re-compacts all in one operation, leaving a permanent drainage solution.

Designed for use on sports fields and golf course fairways, it offers material and labour savings, faster processing times and less surface contamination than conventional drainage methods. The sand grid it creates complements existing piped drainage systems, resulting in firmer, drier playing surfaces that can sustain increased levels of play.

Since the first machine was built in 1988, Top Drains have been purchased and used extensively by contractors around the world. Feedback from 22 years of use on a range of surfaces has resulted in no fewer than 16 improvements being made by the skilful design engineers at Imants, working in partnership with Ko Rodenburg.

For example, all controls are now located in the cab, enabling the driver to adjust the settings quickly and easily. The side elevator belt is now totally enclosed, so no spoil is deposited on the ground. This prevents contamination and promotes better surface hygiene. The digging blades have also been redesigned to prolong their use.

The result is a machine which continues to be the contractors' choice for sportsturf drainage.
