KitKat pitch to be tip-top

Press Releasein Football
The repairs to York City's troublesome pitch will be completed next week.

Manager Billy McEwan and his players regularly cited the heavy playing surface as a factor in the team's poor home form last season, but new groundsman Mark Hirst is confident the pitch is ready to stand the test of four pre-season friendlies on successive Saturdays, starting with the visit of Leeds on July 14.

Hirst, along with assistant groundsman Kevin Russell and retired head groundsman Brian Horner, has installed new drains over the summer aimed at improving the pitch's ability to absorb surface water.

Barren patches have also been reseeded and the pitch is expected to be playable within a fortnight.
