David Jenkins Turfcare Equipment announce new products

DJ Turfcare Equipment invited the industries press to see the launch of some new sports turf surface machinery products. On show were some new turf aerators and rollers. The rollers, one a tractor mounted sports field roller and the other a self propelled ride on fine turf roller, have been developed by an Australian company called Tru-Turf, who have developed a results through design not weight philosophy.

Tru-Turfs MD Ray Dufty explained that the rollers were designed to spread and distribute the weight of the machine evenly, increasing the performance of the rolling effects during use.

Tru-Turf was formed in 1989 after a meeting with Mr Ron Kaye who was the original inventor of turf rollers back in the early 1940's for this type of turf equipment. It was in the early 1970's when Ron invented the first sideways moving ride on polisher/roller, convincing the world that 2½" (62mm) diameter sets of rollers would be more effective and produce a truer surface than the 3 foot diameter (915mm) rollers then being used.

After meeting with Ron, with his wealth of experience and knowledge, Tru- Turf set about designing and engineering new turf rollers for the sports turf industry culminating in the development of the machines seen at Saltex.

The Tru-Turf SR72 sports field roller has three 1900mm swath rollers and incorporates a spiking wheel which aids aeration during rolling offering 25, 38 and 55mm spiking depths. The total weight of the roller is 750kg and requires a 40hp tractor prime mover unit to tow the roller.

DJ Turfcare also had a number of other turf care machinery products on show including a range of soil relievers. Particularly interesting was the development of the Super 70 soil reliever, which encompasses new design features that enable the machine to spike at consistent depth and at speed. The machine automatically adjusts the depth of the tines as it moves over undulating ground. The machine costs £13000 but can be hired out on a hourly basis, with rates of £15-25 per hour depending on the number of hours hired. Hire costs also include safety training in regard to use of equipment.
