Cycle-4-Change
Staff at Grundfos Pumps are planning a 400 mile sponsored cycle challenge called Cycle-4-Change, to raise money for the charity SACRED (South African Children's Resource for Education & Development). It is the mission of SACRED to bring about a change in the ingrained divisions of class and race by providing deprived children in South Africa with an education and decent housing thereby giving them the tools they require to break the inherent cycle of poverty.
Riders will travel from Livingston in West Lothian to Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire - via Leigh (Lancs), taking in 3 Grundfos office locations. The Cycle-4-Change will take place over 5 days and staff will be getting involved in various different ways.
The very brave wil1 try to complete the whole 400 mile challenge within the time allocated, with cyclists starting out from Livingston on the morning of Monday 8th September, other riders will join the main group on the way, for one or more of the daily stages. All riders must have completed their chosen sections by 2pm on Friday 12th September. Those who are unable to join the route won't be excluded as there will be a "Turbo-trainer" (exercise bike) located at Livingston, Leigh and Leighton Buzzard. Staff can elect to cycle the equivalent of a stage or the full 400 miles, as individuals or teams.
"Of course the aim is to raise funds for SACRED through sponsorship of the cyclists and with a target of £20,000, we need lots of support" stated organiser Julian Wright-Williams. "We will be able to help improve the lives of many impoverished children through this challenge and help our employees to keep fit at the same time - that's got to be worth while!"
