August 2017 Sports Pitch Maintenance Diaries

Editorin Industry News

Sports covered are bowls, cricket, rugby, football, golf and tennis

Sport-wise, we've had a veritable feast in July, with the odd bit of controversy thrown in too. The British & Irish Lions; the Women's World Cup and the Test Series against South Africa; the Women's Euro 2017; Johanna Konta at Wimbledon and The Open at Royal Birkdale.

Fantastic spectacles, and all played on natural turf.

I was hoping for a breather in August, but it doesn't look as if that is going to be the case; what with the Women's British Open, more Test matches, Women's Rugby Union World Cup, the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final, plus the start of the Premier League season. Come the end of the month, I might need a winch to get me out of the armchair!

Where would we be without our talented, dedicated (and, so often, unfairly maligned) greenkeepers and groundsmen?

Our diaries are here to offer some guidance on the work required during the coming month. They are not set in stone, and local conditions will determine the work schedule.

Don't forget, you can also use our Pitchcare Forum, where members can ask for and offer advice on the whole range of sports turf surfaces issues.

Enjoy.
