ALTERNATIVE FUEL SEMINAR AT RANSOMES JACOBSEN DEALER

By Peter Driver

Over 50 invited guests from the South Wales area, including municipal and local authorities, major grounds care contractors and facilities management companies, attended a seminar on alternative fuels at RS Bird Ltd, Ransomes Jacobsen's local dealer based in Cowbridge.RJAltPwrDay2.jpg

The seminar explored the merits of a variety of fuels that offer alternatives to carbon based petrol and diesel, looking at the benefits and drawbacks of electric power, LPG, CNG, LNG and Bio diesel. It also focused on new legislation that will be introduced in the near future and at the organisations that are actively promoting the use of alternative power.

Richard Shelley of RS Bird, who organised the seminar, said,

"We used this event to promote the use of alternative energy to our clients in the turf management sector and in other sectors such as facilities management. New directives and legislation from the EC and national and local governments will affect many of them and we feel that it is important to share our thinking and expertise in order to raise the awareness of the use of alternative fuels. It is a subject that will affect golf course operators, local authorities, contractors and facility managers, and probably sooner than they appreciate.

"The event was certainly well received by all who attended and we have had requests from several clients for demonstrations, especially for the Cushman Diabline, our mid-range electric vehicle."
