Horsley & Send Cricket Club is an up and coming club based in West Horsley, Surrey. The club has two pitches, four adult Saturday sides and around 300 junior members, including a growing girls section. Each square has two hybrid wickets installed in 2023.

The club is seeking an experienced groundsperson to be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of its grounds and pitches. The role includes maintaining the grounds, preparing wickets for adult and junior matches and generally keeping the grounds tidy. The position is also likely to include some work preparing wickets for another local cricket club (roughly 5 hours a week during the season).

Self-contained accommodation in the form of a small flat can be provided at the club if required, suitable for either a single person or a couple. If a couple, there may be revenue-earning opportunities for a partner.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the squares and outfields
  • Providing high quality pitches and wickets for over 100 matches a season, including for the junior section
  • Assisting with the scheduling of junior matches/wickets and some third party adult matches
  • Maintaining the grounds in a respectable condition including, as required, trimming hedges, pruning, strimming etc
  • Working with and maintaining various types of machinery and equipment
  • Preparing a Saturday wicket each week for another local club, estimated to take around 5 hours a week during the season

If resident, the applicant will also be expected to:

  • Lock the gates and the clubhouse each evening and open them in the morning
  • Help keep the clubhouse and its surrounds tidy, as required
  • A flexible approach is needed to working hours, with much greater input needed from March to October than in the winter months.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Significant experience of cricket ground maintenance
  • A strong work ethic with high standards of work and attention to detail
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
