We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Groundsperson to join our grounds team. Under the guidance of your line manager, you’ll be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing the playing surfaces and surrounding landscapes at both Thorp Arch and Elland Road. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the professional excellence of our world-class facilities while working with a dynamic and committed team.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining Leeds United’s pitches and landscapes to the highest possible standards, ensuring they are in pristine condition for every match and training session.
  • Operating machinery such as mowers (both hand and ride-on), tractors, and utility vehicles to ensure pitch quality and landscape upkeep.
  • Undertaking chemical spraying (if qualified) and other grounds maintenance tasks in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Managing day-to-day tasks, including hedge trimming, collecting debris, and applying frost covers and lighting rig deployment.
  • Communicating effectively with the management team, keeping them informed of progress and raising any major issues promptly.
  • Liaising with external contractors and users to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maximising efficiency by carefully managing materials and resources, minimising waste and optimising performance.
  • Demonstrating excellent attention to detail and ensuring all equipment is maintained to the highest standards.
  • Working independently while contributing to a team that shares the same goal of creating world-class facilities.

We are looking for in a Groundskeeper

  • Qualified with an NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent.
  • Qualification would be desirable.
  • Experience in working on professional sports pitches is desirable.
  • PA1, 2a and 6 Spraying certificates are desirable.
  • Full driving license would be preferable
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to lead a team to achieve the desired standards.
  • Able to work effectively lead a team and also independently using own initiative.
  • A proactive individual with a passion for grounds maintenance and football.
  • Previous experience in groundscare, horticulture, or a similar field is highly desirable, but not essential.
  • A good understanding of health and safety practices in the workplace.
  • The ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to learn and grow with the club.
  • If you hold qualifications in chemical spraying or machinery operation, that would be an advantage.
