Barclay Gallup® Biograde Amenity

Active Ingredients: 360g/L Glyphosate.
MAPP no. 17674

Gallup® Biograde Amenity is a systemic herbicide containing 360g/l glyphosate which provides effective control of most broadleaved and grass weeds following foliar uptake. Glyphosate moves systemically within treated plants to control not just top growth but also the roots of unwanted vegetation.

Gallup® Biograde Amenity can be used to control invasive and difficult weeds such as Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed. As well providing excellent control of broadleaved weeds and grasses in amenity and industrial settings, Gallup® Biograde Amenity can be used to control weeds both in and near water.

This 5L bottle is sufficient to treat up to 3.3 ha.

Key Features

  • Systemic activity giving effective control of the whole plant
  • Authorised for use in a wide variety of settings including in and around water
  • Authorised for use with stem injection equipment, weedwipers and rotary atomisers

Target Species

Gallup® Biograde Amenity can be used to control most annual and perennial grasses and broadleaved weeds including:

  • Difficult to control weeds such as Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed
  • Woody weeds such as bracken, bramble and sycamore
  • Heathers and rhododendrons in forestry
  • Tree stumps to prevent regrowth
  • Aquatic weeds

Instructions for use

Where to use

For use on:

    • Amenity vegetation - Any areas of semi natural or ornamental vegetation, including trees.
    • Enclosed waters - Any natural or artificial body of water that does not drain to a water course.
    • Forest - Groups of trees being grown in their final positions e.g. after planting out from a forest nursery.
    • Hard surfaces - Any man-made impermeable surface, such as concrete or asphalt and including railway ballast, that is not intended to bear vegetation.
    • Land immediately adjacent to aquatic areas - The bank of any water course or body of water.
    • Natural surfaces not intended to bear vegetation - Areas of soil or natural outcroppings of rock that are not intended to bear vegetation.
    • Open waters - Any natural or artificial body of water that drains to a water course or is used as a reservoir for domestic water supplies.
    • Permeable surfaces overlying soil - Any man-made permeable surface (excluding railway ballast), such as gravel, that overlies soil and is not intended to bear vegetation.

When to use

Apply once grasses and broadleaved weeds have emerged, are actively growing and have adequate leaf area to absorb the spray (normally March to October). Perennial broad-leaved weeds are generally most susceptible when at or near flowering stage. Perennial grasses must have produced fresh leaves which are green and vigorous. A period without rain of at least six hours and preferably 24 hours must follow application.

Application Window
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec

How to use

Recommended application rates, water volume and application equipment varies depending on the area of use and type of weed being targeted. Please refer to the product label for full details for your situation. The table below gives a general guide:

Situation or type of weed Application rate
Annual weeds 1.5 - 4.0 l/ha
Perennial grasses 4.0 - 5.0 l/ha
Perennial broadleaved weeds 4.0 - 6.0 l/ha
Woody weeds 3.0 l/ha
Heathers 4.0 - 6.0 l/ha
Rhododendron 10 l/ha

For conventional hydraulic tractor mounted and knapsack sprayers:

  • Add half the required water to the spray tank.
  • Add the required amount of Gallup® Biograde Amenity to the spray tank.
  • Top-up the spray tank with water to the required level and agitate to mix thoroughly.
  • Use immediately.

For conventional rotary atomisers use a minimum spray volume of 40 l/ha and ensure that the droplet diameter is at least 200 microns.

For weed wipers, use a 1:1 or 1:2 dilution depending the weedwiper type.

For stem injection, use 2 ml of undiluted product per cut.

For cut stump application, use a 1:9 dilution for deciduous species or 1:4 dilution for coniferous species.

Additional Information

  • Consult the appropriate water regulatory body before using the product in or near water.
  • Avoid contact with non-target plants
  • A period of at least 6 hours and preferably 24 hours rain-free must follow application.
  • Treat established perennial weeds at the start of flowering for best effect.
  • Do not spray in windy conditions.
  • Do not spray onto weeds suffering from drought stress or during frosty weather.
  • Weeds may show the first effects from a few days up to 4 weeks after application depending on the weather and type of weed.
  • Leave treated weeds for at least 7 days before cultivating, applying lime, fertiliser manure or pesticides.
  • Some tough weeds may need repeated treatments.

Active Substances

Glyphosate

Bio-Chemical Mode of Action: Glyphosate belongs to the Inhibition of Enolpyruvyl Shikimate Phosphate Synthase (ESPS) group of herbicides.

ESPS herbicides work by shutting down the shikimate pathway which is used in the production of the proteins it needs to grow and survive.

Mobility: Glyphosate is a systemic penetrant which means that the active substance can be translocated downwards through the plant within the phloem (sugar conducting tissues) and upwards through the plant within the xylem (water conducting tissues).

Application timing: ESPS herbicides are best applied when the weeds are actively growing. They are generally more effective when target plants are younger and in their vegetative phases.

Resistance: As of 2018, 38 weed species distributed across 37 countries and in 34 different crop and 6 non-crop situations had been identified.
