30 years of turfcare for nothing!

We recently found out that a long-serving greenkeeper had managed to reach the milestone of 30 years at the same club. However, they had never been rewarded for their loyalty.

We took to social media to find out if this is common. The results may surprise you...

Many argue that a club would not be the same without the long-standing team members, one social media user wrote this: "I did 20 years at one club and never got recognized and 20 years at the place I work at now. Clubs do not see the worth of this."

It seems sad that clubs aren't recognizing the work: "You work for years and show loyalty and dedication to the job and this is how you are rewarded. They could at least include a pay bonus."

Some clubs have adopted a more rewarding approach. One user said: "I received a gift after 25 years of service. I then got another one and a golf day when I reached 40 years."

Another wrote: "The club marked my 25 years which was nice. After 30 years they included it in the newsletter. Lots of members came and congratulated me which was nice to see."

One suggested getting out of the industry was the route to happiness: "The best thing I did was get out of the industry. I set up my own business and I haven't looked back."
